Typebar Magazine is an irreverent online magazine publishing literary analysis, cultural criticism, and stories about typewriters.

We want to make reading on the Internet fun again. On the early Internet, witty blogs and interesting essays were waiting around every corner. Remember The Awl? The Toast? The Outline? Today’s internet is full of SEO spam, AI-generated garbage, deranged political agitprop, and outrage bait. Our editorial mission is to give people smart, thought-provoking, and fresh stories to read online.

We publish four issues a year. New issues launch at the end of March, June, September, and December. Members of our Patreon get access to each issue a full month early! PDF and eBook versions of each issue are available but only to Patrons of the $5 tier (and up).

We are a not-for-profit endeavor funded entirely by our readers. Every cent we make goes back into editorial operations so we can pay our writers more money. If you are sympathetic to our goal of creating a place for essays to thrive and for writers to be compensated fairly for their work, please consider supporting us on Patreon
